And now two of the twin towns most talented creatives are uniting for Alton Gallery’s upcoming exhibition.
Curator and director of the gallery Veronica Lamb will be showcasing a collection of her striking art deco works — blending her favourite colours of red, black and white, the paintings feature svelte figures of women and sleek buildings reminiscent of the roaring ’20s.
‘‘In the ’60s art deco was really big and I got into it — now I am simply revisiting it,’’ she said.
Meanwhile multi-talented local Valerie Hill will feature works from her latest foray into textile art.
Wowing art-lovers for decades with her pastel, oil, pencil and watercolour works, Valerie has now combined her passion for sewing and art to create a range of stunning applique works — all with her signature vibrant colour scheme.
‘‘I like to dabble in a bit of everything and try all mediums,’’ she said.
‘‘I often surprise myself by being somewhat adventurous.’’
Growing up in an artistic family, Valerie has been painting since she was young, exhibiting widely and winning awards along the way.
After her five children became independent she joined Echuca Moama Artists and hasn’t looked back.
As for Veronica, the talented artist (who is self-taught) has painted and exhibited in Flinders Lane and galleries throughout Australia and overseas, featuring both contemporary and traditional work.
Recently, one of her large oil paintings was even selected to appear on an advertising brochure in Murano, Venice, alongside their famous Murano glass products.
In addition to continuing to pursue her passion for painting, Veronica now channels much of her time into seeing Alton Gallery flourish.
Valerie and Veronica’s exhibition will be launched on February 2 at 11am, with live music to be performed by Serhiy.
It will be on display throughout February and March.
