Sixty-three exhibitors outlined exactly what it takes to be a professional across a number of careers including dancing, emergency service responders, electricians, hairdressers, game designers and more.
The event opened with a panel discussion featuring Kelly Shotton of Foodmach, Pat Arnold from Echuca Moama Physiotherapy, Bim Sherwood from Advance Computing and Jacinta Cannon of endota spa.
The discussion gave insight into each individual’s unexpected journey to their career and what further education is needed to secure it.
All the students selected four workshops they wanted to attend to find out more about a possible career path.
Throughout each workshop, students were engaged, asking questions about pathways and what a day in the life of each job looks like.
Beacon co-ordinator Cheryl Sweeney was thrilled with how much the students were actively involved in the day.
‘‘It’s all about our 420 local secondary students finding out about the careers they are interested in,’’ she said.
‘‘The students get to go through what the career is about, what subjects they should choose and whether they should do work experience.’’
Students from Moama Anglican Grammar, St Joseph’s, Echuca College, Twin Rivers and, for the first time, Echuca Specialist School, attended the half-day careers expo.
