Deniliquin Boat Club will once again be to the forefront for Victoria’s best wakeboarders, hosting round four of the Wakeboard Victoria Championships on Saturday.
More than 40 competitors are expected take to the Edward River in an attempt to earn points for the state titles.
The day is set to be a massive event for the Deni Boat Club with officials expecting at least 200 competitors, support crew and spectators to attend.
After the success of last year’s event held at Deni, which attracted 44 competitors and more than 100 spectators, Wakeboard Victoria secretary Kahren Bennett said it was an easy decision to return to the Edward.
‘‘Last year’s event (in Deni) was one of our biggest ever,’’ she said.
‘‘We were blown away with how big it was.
‘‘Looking at the number of entrants we’ve had so far, it looks like it will be just as big if not bigger this year.
‘‘One thing we did notice from last year was the large number of younger kids.
‘‘We’re hoping for a similar number of young competitors as it’s always been a major focus of ours.’’
Spectators can enter the event for free, with food and refreshments available on the day, with live entertainment from local acts Lachlan Downes and Ellie and Shane McGrath into the night.
The weather will also be kind to spectators with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a top of 32 degrees and clear skies.
With the ideal wakeboarding conditions set, Bennett said it’s the perfect family day out.
‘‘Last year it was extremely hot and we still had a great crowd, so hopefully we should get a few more people down there this year,’’ she said.
‘‘Everyone gets to see some of the best riders Victoria has to offer as well as some talented wakeboarders from the local area.
‘‘Wakeboarding is a great spectator sport and everyone is welcome to watch.’’
The action will kick-off about 8am, with entrants in the younger grades needing to be at the Deniliquin Boat Club at 7.30am.
