Deniliquin RSL Bowling Club’s Division One side are still chasing their first win after suffering a Campaspe Valley Bowls Division round five loss to Moama on Saturday.
RSL couldn’t pull off an upset on their home greens, going down on all three rinks in a 78 to 58 loss.
Terry Taylor with his team of Brian Clancy, Chris Taylor and Tony Tonta struggled from the outset against their opposition.
They were held scoreless for the first eight ends, trailing 17 to 0 and were playing catch up for remainder of the match.
To their credit they actually outscored their opponents 19 to 17 from that point on but faced a daunting task to draw any closer.
Moama were never challenged and cruised to a 15 shot win.
Final score, Moama 34 to RSL 19.
Ken Wellard, Michael Howe, Tony King and Glenn Thomson featured in a tight game with nothing between the two sides for most of the day.
Scores were level at 15-all on the 17th end, and level again at 17 apiece on the 20th.
A ‘three’ to Moama on the next end gave them what was ultimately the winning break.
Final score, Moama 23 to RSL 20.
Daryl Weymouth’s team of Frank Daniels, Jenny Tonta and David Hart were also involved in an even contest.
Shots were hard to come by in the early part of the game, with scores level at 6-all on the 10h end.
RSL dominated the next part of the game, winning seven of the next 10 ends to led 19-9 on the 19th end.
However, Moama fought back to take the final six ends, scoring 12 shots to get over the line by two.
Final score, Moama 21 to RSL 19.
RSL’s Division Three side only won on one of the three rinks to go down to Tongala 71 to 54.
Jim Jennings and his team of Wayne Bradley, Cheryl Bradley and Craig Taylor found shots hard to come by against a consistent Tongala combination at Tongala.
Trailing 18 to 7 at the tea break, they managed to bridge the gap to 18 to 12 on the 18th end but from that point on in was one way traffic with Tongala winning six of the final seven ends to cruise to a 15 shot victory.
Final score, Tongala 28 to RSL 13.
Ron Marchetti, Lyn Hardcastle, Tim Dover and Rod Reid trailed 13 to 7 on the 13th end but a strong resurgence saw them close the gap to a single shot, down 16 to 15 on the 19th end.
However their run faltered, conceding a ‘five’ on the 20th end and only picking up a single on the remaining five ends as Tongala finished out the match strongly.
Final score, Tongala 27 to RSL 16.
Lee Pattinson’s grouping of Don McCalman, Winnie Pattinson and James Rhook started slowly, not scoring until the sixth end.
They drew to within reach trailing 12 to 8 at tea break and by the 17th end they only trailed by a single shot 13 to 12.
A ‘six’ and a ‘two’ for RSL on the next two ends blew the game apart and from that point on they were never threatened.
Final score, RSL 25 to Tongala 16.
RSL’s Division Five had great success at home against rival Deniliquin Bowling Club, winning both rinks for a clean sweep 55 to 29 win.
Neville Austin’s grouping Miro Peterman, Allan Hodges and Bruce Clancy were locked at 7-all on the 10th end.
A ‘five’ on the 11th end gave them a break and from that point on they were never headed.
Even though the remaining 14 ends were shared, a ‘three’ and a ‘four’ on successive ends late in the game saw the RSL combination win comfortably.
Final score, RSL 25 to Deni BC 15.
Max Connor, Sandra Hill, Graham Gordon and John Wilson continued their winning ways in an emphatic victory, winning on 15 of the 25 ends.
They led from the outset, picking up five ‘threes’ and a ‘four’ while restricting their opposition to singles on their winning ends.
The final end saw the visitors play their best bowls of the day, finishing with a ‘four’.
Final score, RSL 30 to Deni BC 14.
