The third annal Deni Big Freeze was held at Deniliquin’s McLean Beach on Sunday to raise money for motor neurone disease (MND) support and research.
The lunch-time dip was made by 27 people, mostly Melbourne visitors in Deni for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend but with a growing number of locals among their number.
The Deni Big Freeze was started is 2017 by annual visitors from Werribee, to support their friend and relative Bob Tottle who was diagnosed with the disease that year.
It has since become an extension of their annual ‘Krunk Tour’ of Deni and district — which sees the visitors attend each local pub on the Saturday.
Deni Big Freeze co-organiser Kylee Healy said this year’s fundraising effort sits at more than $3600 so far, with more donations rolling in. Last year the group managed to raise $3017 and in their first year, with only 12 hours to fundraise, they gathered $941.
The group also provided a post-dip barbecue at the beach this year, with food donated by Deniliquin Central IGA.
