Edward River Council general manager Adam McSwain said a total water main length of 140 kilometres would be cleaned throughout June by H&S Maintenance Pty Ltd.
‘‘Air scouring is an aggressive method of water main cleaning, and while it uses about half the water as normal mains flushing, it is proven to be far more effective than normal flushing operations using water alone,’’ Mr McSwain said.
‘‘It provides the water main with a thorough clean and removes accumulated sediment from the system, achieving improved, consistent water quality.
‘‘We are aiming to ensure minimal disruption to homes and businesses and will provide interruption notices to all residents advising when their section of the network is to be cleaned.’’
Residents are encouraged to follow the instructions on the notice, including storing water for use during the interruption period, turning off their stop tap at the meter, and following the recommended procedure when water is restored.
