The woman’s husband, a 32 year-old also from Western Australia, has been remanded in custody over the incident.
It appears the shooting is being treated as accidental.
The man will appear in Griffith Local Court tomorrow in relation to multiple firearms offences, including use of a firearm in a manner likely to cause injury.
He was also charged with use of an unauthorised firearm and using a firearm under the influence of alcohol.
He was initially bail refused by Griffith Bail Court on Saturday afternoon.
Police were yesterday unable to provide specific details in relation to the incident, because of the ongoing investigation.
But it is believed the man was attempting to load the gun from the back of a ute when it fired.His wife was reportedly standing at the front of the ute and was struck just after midnight, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police said further investigations regarding the incident, including the source of the firearm, are continuing.
Emergency services took the woman to Deniliquin Hospital, and she was later transferred to Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Two crime scenes have been examined by specialist police, and four witnesses — who police say were two men and two women — have also been interviewed about the incident.
The group is believed to have been hunting on private property at Pretty Pine.
