The Dungala-Kaiela Writing Awards were inaugurated in 2012 to provide an opportunity for writing and self-expression in the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
There are three categories in the Dungala-Kaiela Writing Awards.
The Story/Yarn/Article/Play category has four sections – junior section (prep to grade six), youth section (13 years to 18 years), open section (19 years and over) and the elders section (65 years and over).
The Poem/Lyric/Rap category has four sections – junior section (prep to grade six), youth section (13 years to 18 years), open section (19 years and over) and the elders section (65 years and over).
There is also a category for Aboriginal Languages of this region in any written form.
There are three sections - junior section (prep to grade six), youth section (13 years to 18 years) and the open section (19 years and over).
Some Aboriginal language words must be used, however the whole entry does not have to be written in Aboriginal language.
Translation is requested for all language entries.
