Over 560 seniors kicked up their heels and helped celebrate the 2019 NSW Seniors Festival by attending the Baby Boomers Bus About in February.

Based around this year’s festival theme ‘Love Your Life’, Baby Boomers Bus About was a series of organised tours encouraging people to get out and about, enjoy a variety of activities and events that encourage a healthy, creative and social lifestyle.
There was something for everyone as residents travelled across the council area attending the free events.
The festival started on Monday, February 11 where guests were treated to a great morning out at Melodies and Memories at the Corowa RSL Club.
Entertained by the ‘Hoffmans Duo’, the week started with a good laugh. The meal was fantastic and many people have said what a wonderful day it was.
Federation Council’s Ageing Well Advisory Committee welcomed 100 people to the Ageing Well in Federation Expo on Wednesday, February 13at ClubMulwala. The Expo provided an opportunity for people to speak directly to over 30 local service providers and government organisations.
It was great to see people taking advantage of this opportunity, as well as listening to the full program of guest speakers. Lunch at the club added to the day.
Guests were reminded that eating is key to ensuring you get most out of life and maintaining flexibility, strength and balance as you age.
Dietician, Daniel Thomson from Barefoot Lifestyle spoke at the ‘Love Your Health. Love Your Life’ event at the Oaklands RSL and Bowling Club.
Council’s Environmental Health Officer, Angela Lawson talked about what is food safety and how to protect yourself and your loved ones. Following this valuable information session, everyone was keen to enjoy the delicious morning tea provided by the ladies of Oaklands, participate in an introductory Tai Chi class by Louise Smith and end the morning with some gentle exercise led by the vibrant and energetic, Liz Seeliger.
On the Thursday, 90 guests travelled to Morundah for a special private screening of the 2017 movie ‘The Leisure Seeker’ at the Morundah Paradise Palladium Theatre.
Following the movie a mouth-watering two-course lunch was provided by the Morundah Bush Entertainment Committee. For many of the guests this was the first time to Morundah, but for many it will not be the last.
Nearly 200 people caught up at the final Baby Boomers Bus About event, the Ageing Well Lunch on Sunday, February 24. Guests enjoyed a two-course lunch at the Howlong Golf Resort with entertainment by easy listening folk singer, Barry (Baz) Bird.
The Baby Boomers Bus About was an initiative delivered by Federation Council to celebrate the contribution that senior residents make to the community. It was supported through the 2019 NSW Seniors Festival Grants Program.
Council would like to acknowledge the sponsors, venues, guest speakers and volunteers who helped to ensure the events could be provided free of charge.
Council would like to extend a special thank you to the following businesses, Corowa RSL Club, Howlong Golf Resort and ClubMulwala who provided in-kind event sponsorship.
The lucky door prize was provided by Club Mulwala and the Across the Arts Yarrawonga Mulwala Arts Council.
It was pleasing to see such a great level of support and enthusiasm from the community for this event and Federation Council thanked the seniors who attended and helped celebrate the 2019 Seniors Festival in the council area.
