A giant piggy bank — 3m tall, weighing 700kg — will roll into Cobram later this month, raising money for children with life-threatening conditions.
The annual Very Special Kids Piggy Bank Appeal will be in Cobram on July 24 at the Commonwealth Bank from 10.30am to 2pm.
The giant piggy bank will also be stopping in Wodonga (July 19), Yarrawonga (July 20), Echuca (July 25) and Shepparton (July 26 and 27).
Local bank branches and venues will be fundraising, selling cute piggy merchandise and encouraging community members to support local families in need.
Very Special Kids supports 45 families in the Loddon Mallee region, 51 in the Hume region and more than 900 across Victoria, who are caring for children with life-threatening conditions.
The organisation provides 24-hour nursing care at Victoria’s only children’s hospice, as well as professional support services for families.
Very Special Kids chief executive Michael Wasley said the charity relied on the community to help continue its services.
‘‘Each year it costs over $8.8million to operate Very Special Kids. Without donations from our community we would not be able to continue caring for these brave families.’’
