Carols a hit despite weather

By Cobram Courier

Despite inclement weather, 400 residents enjoyed Barooga Carols by Candlelight, hosted by Barooga Advancement Group.

Mother Nature opened the heavens on Barooga Botanical Gardens, with light drizzle constant during the 2 hour show.

Barooga Advancement Group treasurer and secretary Neil Duffield said, while the weather was unfortunate and impacted on gate takings, these things happen from time to time.

‘‘I reckon there was about half the attendance numbers of last year, but we’ve had two really good years, so we can’t complain too much,’’ he said.

‘‘In fairness, it still rounded up at about 8.30pm and people didn’t want to go home as long the choir kept singing, there were still people up dancing and carrying on.

‘‘We kept it going for as long as we could, but then the weather really turned nasty and it really poured, which moved large sections of the crowd.’’

Mr Duffield said despite the conditions, the event would again be on for the second Sunday of December next year.
