Although the Best Lifestyle Units Mitsubishi Evo IX team finished in second place in Saturday’s 300km race, the siblings were awarded the outright win after the car crossing the finish line 0.4 seconds ahead of Ellex was given a penalty.
The Class B1 Suburu had not completed its compulsory pitstop, meaning the Bests took the win.
Qualifying on pole in class B1, the duo started P3 outright on the grid, and in wet conditions Super3 racer Zak — in his APC debut — handed the car to his older sister 44 seconds ahead of the field, with Ellex guiding the car to the finish line.
On Sunday, Ellex, who was the only female driver competing in the APC, started the second 300km race in pole position. She passed the car to Zak in outright fifth, and second in class B1, before Zak and another competitor collided, causing damage to the driver’s side door and front right wheel.
After a decision to wait for a safety car didn’t pay off, Zak nursed the car home to finish outright 12th, though it was enough for the team to finish second in Class B1 for the weekend.
