After last week’s big loss Benalla Youth Girls went to Nathalia to play the Northern Angels.
They started the game in a very quick fashion and with good team work and long kicking scored five unanswered goals by the first change.
The game was very open due to both teams having only 16 girls on the field, and this allowed many players to run and handball.
The second term was played in a similar fashion with the Benalla girls slowing a bit due to the warm day and the Nathalia girls playing a better game, thus making it harder to score.
But the Saints creatively found a way through the Northern Angels’ defence to put two more goals on the board by half-time.
Saints’ acting coach Damon Symes asked the girls to keep running and maintain the good teamwork ahead of the second half, and they came back on to the field with a renewed effort to kick another two goals to Northern Angels’ one before the final change.
A seven-goal blitz by the Saints in the final term blew the scores out, with the Saints winning by 90 points in the end.
Benalla’s Keeley Skepper led the way in her first game back from Murray Bushrangers duties, with her long kicking into the forward line allowing the Saints to score easily.
With the NAB League recently concluding, Skepper will now be available for all remaining Saints games.
Next Sunday, the Benalla Saints will play Seymour at the Benalla Showgrounds with a 12.30pm start.
The game will see Murray Bushrangers’ Skepper and Seymour’s Sophie Locke go head-to- head.
Final score: Benalla Youth Girls 15.12 (102) def Northern Angels 1.6 (12)
Goal kickers: Tayissa Gray 6, Grace Hutchins 3, Madison Gray 2, Samantha Pritchard 2, Keeley Skepper, Molly Glaizebrook.
