Benalla Saints youngsters Riley Johnson and James Davies have been included in the initial Goulburn Valley League under-18.5 squad to take on the Western Region Football League in this year’s AFL Victoria Community Championships at Werribee’s Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday.
Davies played his first senior game of the season against Shepparton on Saturday to go with his five matches in the under-18 team.
Meanwhile, Johnson played three games for reserves to begin the season, before moving up to seniors to feature in Benalla’s round 5 and 6 matches against Echuca and Shepparton, respectively.
“The talent of the younger players in our league continues to impress me” interleague coach Jason Wells said.
“It’s been a tough job selecting this squad and it will get even tougher soon reducing it to the 23 who will represent us on the day.”
The competition age for this year is under-18.5 to accommodate the older age group of the WRFL.
