Benalla A-graders failed to match it against Seymour on the weekend, losing 29 to 47 as the two teams met.
After a slow start, which saw the Lions outscore the Saints 10 to five in the opening term, the Saints capitalised on their midcourt pressure to bring the margin within three at half-time.
But it was the Lions who had more in the tank across the second half doubling their opponents’ scores in both the third and fourth term to win the match comfortably.
Mikaylah Lessing and playing coach Grace Warnock battled in attack with 13 and 16 goals respectively, while Kylie Relf and Kelsey Pallpratt were among the side’s best.
B-grade
Despite a strong final term, Benalla was unable to defeat a confident Seymour outfit, going down by 11 goals in the B-grade clash.
The Saints outscored the Lions in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t match their opponents defensive pressure to swing momentum and the match.
Georgia Ubergang kept her side within reach of the lead with her 18 goals, while Rebecca Robinson, Brittany Button and Shae Skelton were all named among the best.
B-reserve
A consistent four-quarter effort from Seymour saw the visitors outplay Benalla to record a 54 to 39 result.
Benalla proved ultra competitive in the first and final quarters, but a lapse in the middle two terms saw the Lions capatilise and build a match-winning lead.
Chelsea Bamford held the Saints attack together with her 19 goals, while Caitlin Chibnal’s efforts also caught the eye.
Under-17s
Despite only conceding four goal in the final term, Benalla’s underage squad were overrun by a stronger Seymour squad on Good Friday, ultimately falling 26 to 60.
The Saints simply had too much ground to make up after the Lions sprinted to a 56 to 22-point lead across the opening three terms, but admirably dug deep to stop the flow of goals in the final quarter.
Isabella Riley and Emma Purcell were among the side’s best, while Kaitlyn Robinson was handy in attack.
Under-15s
The young Saints failed to get over the top of Seymour — which posted a 30-goal victory in the round three match up.
The Saints’ attack failed to fire early, with the Lions racing to a 25 to nine lead by half-time.
And with Seymour shooters Ashlyn Webster (35 goals) and Mia Allen (20) dominating the ring, the Saints defensive stocks had plenty of work against them.
But in better signs the Saints stuck at it and posted a stronger second half to keep up with the Lions.
