The young basketball star is gearing up to represent the North East Bushrangers’ under-14 side this season, with his first game already under his belt.
The 12-year-old travelled down to Melbourne to take on a Collingwood team on Friday.
Schluter, who is out on the basketball court any chance he gets, said he took up the game four years ago with some help from his dad.
He has since been playing domestic basketball and represented the Benalla squad for the past three years, as well as being selected to attend the jamboree camp.
‘‘I just love playing, scoring and having fun,’’ Schluter said.
After travelling to Melbourne every week for grading in the lead up to the Bushrangers’ season, Schluter and his family were given a helping hand from the Benalla Young Sportsperson Trust last Wednesday.
He was handed a $500 cheque from sponsor GMCU’s Jenni Cogger and BYSPT trustee Karen Edwards, and said the money would be a huge help covering the cost of travelling and competing.
Schluter’s mum, Bec Lowen, said she was very proud of her son, who despite having height on his side, had not quite passed his mum yet.
