Dave, who is well know in the Benalla community for his involvement with local sporting clubs, started with the Forests Commission Victoria in 1977 as a general firefighter at Casterton.
He was enrolled in the School of Forestry in 1981 and was then posted to Benalla, where he managed hard and soft wood harvesting.
Dave thrived in the department’s fire program leading the 16-man Benalla Mobile Fire Support Crew and also worked as a crew leader and district duty officer, coordinating fire response across the district.
Since the mid-1980s, Dave has worked in the department’s land administration program working with committees of management and local landowners on Crown land issues, leases and licensing.
