Dookie The Musical sells out

By John Lewis

In a remarkable testament to the power of community passion and fantastic marketing - Shepparton Theatre Arts Group's original production - Dookie The Musical - has sold out its four performances even before the cast bumped into WestSide Theatre.

The show, written by John Head with music by Wade Gregory, has a strong cast of local actors, musicians and singers including the Goulburn Valley Orchestra - opens on Anzac Day.

Three more performances on Friday April 27 at 7.30 and Saturday at 2pm and 7.30pm have all sold out.

Set in 2007, Dookie The Musical tells the story of soldier Dean Turner who returns from Afghanistan to his small hometown of Dookie, accompanied by his PTSD-affected comrade Steve.

Dean hopes Dookie will be a good place for his mate’s recovery.

In the meantime, the local community has entered an orchestral competition hoping to win enough money to build a memorial to commemorate their WWI fallen in time for the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day.

Just one problem ... they don’t have an orchestra!
