After 18 months of planning, fundraising, and community support, the initiative is set to bring more than just good food to Tatura.
“This dream started at the beginning of 2024,” Jacqui Hall, Generations Church and Op Shop community care manager said.
“From raising money and securing grants to getting everything registered, it’s been a real process. But we’re finally here, and it’s so exciting.
“We want to set up in neighbourhoods once a month, giving people a place to gather, share a meal, and connect.”
The trailer will serve simple, hearty meals like spaghetti Bolognese, baked potatoes, tacos, and curries, all prepared by volunteers in a commercial kitchen at Olive and Vine.
“It’s not just about food,” food bank manager Jolene Bowles said.
“The cooking group is also a social outlet for people who might be vulnerable or looking for connection. It gives them a way to contribute and feel part of something.”
Meals are free, though donations are welcome to help cover costs.
“There’s no expectation — it’s not about charity, it’s about community,” Jacqui said.
“We want everyone to feel welcome, whether they’re in need or just want to connect.”
The project’s slogan, proudly displayed across the trailer, sums it up: “There’s Room at the Table.”
Residents can follow Generations Community Care on Facebook for updates.
However, for the rest of the year, the trailer will be at Mactier Park on November 20 and December 4.
“Our first night served about 100 people,” Jacqui said.
“The atmosphere was lovely, and so many people were generous in giving back.”
Sharing food, stories, and smiles — the food trailer brings the community together.
