Karramomus is the final side to be left unblemished in the Cricket Shepparton Haisman Shield after a thrashing of friendly foe Tatura.
The Bloods’ undefeated streak even stretches as far back as to the T20 tournament held the weekend before the season began, where the Bloods went through unscathed to claim the crown.
Missing skipper Nathan Jones from the line-up, Karramomus was still skilled with bat and ball to post an enormous batting total and a clinical bowling display.
Tatura won the toss and elected to bowl, but it ultimately suited Karramomus just fine.
Openers Mitchell McGrath and Ethan Baxter posted 50s (56 and 51 respectively), in an opening stand of 98 runs before the first wicket fell.
Blood Bailey Simpson was the only man in red and gold that failed to capitalise on the batting deck, out for 16 runs, but the following middle order pair Zavier Davidson and Declan Newbound continued on McGrath and Baxter’s initial work – and in serious style.
Davidson and Newbound too scored 50s in their partnership and in blistering fashion, with individual knocks of 54 off 23 and 57 off 30 respectively.
Davidson retired not out, while Newbound was caught out from Tatura skipper Jayden Armstrong’s work, but as they departed the crease, Tatura had a tall task to follow, set a target of 254.
For the red, white and blue, it was never to be.
Shane Smith forced errant shots from opening batters Joshua Catalano and Lachlan Magee, dismissing the two for seven and one.
A soul-ripping run out ended coach Daniel Coombs’ time at the middle after he made a promising start with Kiran Green, with the pair getting 23 and 32 runs each.
However, the middle order was unable to bank runs also, with Blake Armstrong, Harry Singh and Nicholas Watt combining for 18 runs between them.
Skipper Jayden Armstrong once again looked a better bat than his spot in eighth in the order suggests, notching 22 not out after his 83 not out the previous week, but the rest of the tail fell around him in quick succession.
Tatura was bowled out for 127 in the 32nd over, only reaching half the target it was set.
The win now sees the Bloods sit atop the ladder, four premiership points clear of teams placed second through seventh, and boasting a quotient better than all sides except Central Park-St Brendan’s.
Karramomus can look to continue its winning ways against Mooroopna at home next round, while Tatura will look to rebound from losing its hold on the Kilmartin Shield, which it had held it for four straight years, against Nagambie, one of six sides sharing a 2-1 record currently.
THE GAME
Karramomus 4-253 (Declan Newbound 57, Mitchell McGrath 56, Harry Singh 3-65) d Tatura 127 (Kiran Green 32, Daniel Coombs 23, Shane Smith 2-9)
STAR PLAYER
Declan Newbound (Karramomus): It would be impossible to split the near identical batting performances of Karramomus’ four half-tonners, but Newbound’s blistering 57 off only 30 balls was a sight to see. Including four fours and three sixes, Newbound smashed the Kookaburra to the fence without hesitation alongside Zavier Davidson, but also nabbed 2-22 with the ball at an economy of only 2.44.
