The land and buildings in Tom Street, Yarrawonga which comprise the former primary school have not been used for education purposes since 2018.
In 2019 the Department of Education and Training indicated that the site was no longer required for education purposes and subsequently offered it for sale through the First Right of Refusal offer to public authorities.
In response to previous requests from the Yarrawonga Community, the council has progressed discussions with the Victorian Government about securing the site for community use.
The assistant treasurer, the Department of Transport and Planning and the Victorian School Building Authority have provided the council with an opportunity to assess the interest of the community to better understand future needs and uses, including the level of investment required to acquire and refurbish the site.
If you have an interest in using the site, head to the council website to register your interest.
Following the registration period, council will release a formal expression of interest process for detailed proposals.
A range of uses may be considered, as long as it generally supports the principle and focus of retaining the site for community purposes.
