At about 9.11pm, Jerilderie Fire + Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service brigades responded to a grain truck fire on the Newell Hwy, about 50km north of Jerilderie.
Jerilderie Fire + Rescue NSW’s Andrew Bell said the contents of the truck were stock feed pallets.
The likely cause of the fire was a faulty wheel bearing.
“It caught fire around the wheel hub, which penetrated the bottom of the trailer,” Mr Bell said.
“The truck driver managed to remove the burning trailer and save the prime mover from damage.”
The north bound lane was subsequently closed for around three and a half hours while crews worked on the scene.
Police, Transport for NSW, Jerilderie Fire + Rescue NSW with their rescue pumper and Jerilderie and Bolton Rural Fire Service brigades were in attendance with their units and one tanker.
