TELSTRA is upgrading its mobile network in Echuca, including power, transmission and capacity upgrades.Customers may notice some changes to their mobile service starting on Monday, November 16, and continuing through to the end of the month as Telstra carries out this upgrade work in stages.
“While we’ve carefully planned upgrade work in the area to minimise disruptions, our customers may notice some impact to their mobile services,” Telstra regional general manager Steve Tinker said.“We’ve sent out text messages ahead of the upgrade work to ensure our customers have had time to plan ahead.“We know there’s never a perfect time to schedule upgrade work and we apologise for the interruption but once we’re finished, it’ll mean better services for our customers.”
Telstra has several mobile sites throughout Echuca and customers may continue to receive coverage from other, nearby mobile sites but there will be some unavoidable impacts to some services as it carries out the upgrade.
Some businesses may notice an impact to their EFTPOS terminals if those terminals use Telstra’s 3G or 4G network for connectivity.
Telstra does not operate the EFTPOS network, it is operated by financial institutions. While some EFTPOS terminals use 3G and 4G connectivity, many EFTPOS terminals can also utilise fixed line/Wi-Fi/NBN internet connections which won’t be impacted.
Retailers should contact their bank for more information and details on how to switch between these methods.Telstra customers can take advantage of Wi-Fi Calling which enables voice calls using a fixed broadband Wi-Fi connection from your compatible Telstra mobile when you can’t connect to the mobile network.
