The number printed on parking tickets throughout Shepparton’s central business district was registered to Ipswich City Council, west of Brisbane.
A council spokesperson said they were working to rectify the error.
‘‘It has been brought to council’s attention that the ABN printed on parking tickets issued by Greater Shepparton City Council is the incorrect ABN,’’ the spokesperson said.
Council did not identify how long the incorrect number had been printed on the tickets, but said it was not required to display an ABN on parking tickets by law.
‘‘There is no requirement for council to provide an ABN for the purposes of the validity of the parking ticket relevant to Regulation 207 of the Road Safety Rules 2017,’’ they said.
Council said the incorrect ABN did not invalidate the parking tickets issued by the machines.
‘‘The vending machine ticket is displayed in the vehicle when parking and determines the amount paid, the location and the time the ticket expires — this is not a parking infringement ticket,’’ they said.
‘‘The parking infringements issued by council contain the correct ABN.’’
