Truck and car collide on River Rd, Kialla

By Shepparton News

Police said two people were lucky to escape with minor injuries following a truck and car collision in Shepparton this morning.

Shepparton Police Leading Senior Constable Glenn Fitzgerald said the collision occurred just after 10am on River Rd in Kialla.

“The truck was going west along River Rd around the bend,” Sen Const Fitzgerald said.

“A lady has come out of Central Kialla Rd and failed to give-way and collided with the truck causing the truck to rollover.”

The collision caused the truck to land in a ditch on its side on the opposite side the road.

Sen Const Fitzgerald said the male truck driver, 29, and the female driver of the car, 72, were both taken to Goulburn Valley Health for precautionary checks.

“We’re looking at chest pain for one and an arm injury for another,” Sen Const Fitzgerald said.

“Any collision involving a heavy vehicle you are lucky to walk away or not get serious injuries.”

Sen Const Fitzgerald said VicRoads would be attending the scene shortly to lift the truck and remove it from the site.

He said the road was expected to be closed for some time while this happens, with motorists advised to avoid the area.
