The fire is now believed to be under control, with traffic now flowing on the Goulburn Valley Hwy in both directions.
The Goulburn Valley Hwy was this afternoon closed in both directions due to a roadside fire south of Shepparton, the city's CFA district duty officer said.
But the News understands the highway has been partially reopened with traffic being allowed to pass in both directions.
At about 5pm, ten units were attending a fire near the corner of the Goulburn Valley Hwy and Karramomus Rd, between the highway and a service road to the east, a CFA spokesperson said.
But the spokesperson said at that time that the fire was "most likely" to be under control and the road reopened by about 5.30pm.
"We've got the highway closed in both directions."
"We believe we've stopped the run of the fire.
"We expect to open the highway in the next 30 minutes," he had said.
He said an air unit was initially called to the incident, but soon after sent home.
More to come.
