Benalla’s own Mitchell Young has won the Australian Scooter Association’s open division Victorian title, with an impressive top score of 268.
The score was judged on style, diversity, difficulty of tricks and use of the rink. It was one of the best scores recorded in Australia and has qualified Mitch for the nationals in April.
‘‘My mate took me to my first tournament in Melbourne a few years back and I won that and have been competing ever since,’’ Mitch said.
‘‘I had to do four qualifiers around Victoria which helped me qualify for the state final.
‘‘I was really happy with how the state final went and I’m proud to get the win. I can’t wait for nationals and will be as prepared as I can be.’’
Mitch has received assistance from the Benalla Young Sportsperson Trust and the Tomorrow Today foundation. He has given back to the community by providing free coaching clinics and demonstrations during Benalla’s Wall to Wall Festival.
The nationals will be in Sydney on April 21 and 22.
