With breathing room becoming increasingly scarce in the competition's middle bracket, a win for fifth-placed Mooroopna means everything as the fight for a place in the top six heats up.
Meanwhile, the point of conversation buzzing around Howley Oval is the promotion of B-grade stalwart John Kealey for his first A-grade outing.
A wily off spinner with a knack for finding grip on the wicket, Kealey has proved a force to be reckoned with in the second tier this season having picked up 17 scalps.
With nothing to lose in the back end of its campaign, Tatura skipper Michael Archer’s decision to reward the tweaker stems from a showing of dedication in the nets.
“He came to the club around four years ago when TK (Tim Kelly) first came, and he dominated C-grade cricket,” Archer said.
“He’s went up to B-grade full time this year and has been their best bowler comfortably.
“Every night at training he is there before I am, he is the first person at training every night, and then he is bowling properly until the end of the night.
“Hopefully he goes well, Mooroopna are a good side so there is no expectation for him to come out and take 8-for but just to come out and have fun; I hope he really enjoys it.”
And while results have not swayed the way of Archer’s side this season, the 22-year-old has had no qualms managing the morale of his youthful setup.
“I haven’t had to do much; all the boys love it,” he said.
“They are all obviously pretty young, so you don’t haver to get into them to get them up and about at all.
“They are all just a fun group of boys, so I have loved it – I couldn’t have asked for a better group to do it with.”
