Competitors will vie for state success on land and sea on March 7, with the race’s make up consisting of swimming and running elements across varying distances.
Shepparton Triathlon Club president Trent Hadfield lauded at the prospect of leading contenders going toe to toe in the heart of the Goulburn Valley.
“We are excited to host the Victorian Aquathlon Championships, this unique event gives participants an opportunity to try our sport in a different format and have a shot at being crowned state champion at the same time,” Hadfield said.
Elated at the prospect of seeing regional Victoria feature on the championship circuit, Triathlons Victoria executive director Grant Cosgriff pointed at the event’s importance in preparation for future races.
“Triathlon Victoria is thrilled to stage the 2020 Aquathlon State Championships in partnership with the Shepparton Triathlon Club. The club has a strong history of community engagement and successful event delivery,” he said.
“There will be race distances to suit everyone, and for those racing at Challenge Shepparton in April, the club will offer a recon ride of the bike course on Sunday morning. This venue has great potential and will be important next season in the qualification for the 2021 Multisport World Championships in Townsville.”
The Victorian State Series title is awarded to both individuals (State Series Award) and clubs/squads (State Series Shield) based on results from selected multisport events each season.
To determine the winner, the athlete who finishes the event in first in tandem with the transition time between each leg will define who is crowned champion.
In addition to providing an alternate challenge for experienced athletes, the event doubles as a feeder for those wishing to dip their toes into the sport.
