Last year was a massive year for Benalla teen Meagan Webster, but this one promises to be even bigger.

After playing club level soccer with Shepparton South and travelling to Brisbane to compete in the School Championship for Victoria, Webster successfully trialed for Melbourne club Moreland Zebras.
She’s set to compete in the Women’s State One League this season, going up against clubs such as Melbourne University, Preston Lions and Eltham Redbacks.
Speaking to TheEnsign, the 16-year-old said one of the most fulfilling things about last year was an increase in leadership opportunities made available to her.
“Playing at both club level and through the Vic team, you're young, but still get to experience leadership a lot more as a player,” she said.
“It was very fulfilling and leadership opportunities always benefit you as a player.”
Despite being the youngest in her new squad, Webster said she was looking forward to playing alongside more experienced national level players.
“It was a little daunting to go into the club, but they are nothing but supportive,” Webster said.
“They weren't just looking for numbers, they’re looking to develop me as a player.
“They are very constructive with my needs as well.”
And though she is stepping into a new environment, it seems she's already settled in well.
“Our coaches (Sean Sumner and Cindy Lay) are awesome, they’re so down to earth,” she said.
“And one thing I noticed with the club was how I clicked with the girls right away.
“Usually it's through pre-season where you form bonds.”
Webster's pre-season with the Zebras kicked off last night in Melbourne and the teen couldn't be happier to get her season under way.
“I missed it so much, so it’ll be good to get back into it,” Webster said.
“Though we were given some body weight training to do at home to keep us occupied.”
Webster will travel to Melbourne twice a week for training, before travelling across the state for game day.
This year is set to be a major step up in commitment for Webster, who also starts Year 11, though it hasn't seemed to overwhelm the teen.
“The club is really flexible and supportive, so I'm looking forward to having that trust with the club.”
