Wodonga Wolves 80
Shepparton is nestled in first position on the Country Basketball League north-east men's ladder after an emphatic win on Saturday night.
The Gators demolished Wodonga Wolves 100-80 at the Shepparton Sports Stadium to jump into pole position in the competition after two rounds.
Again it was Shepparton's dynamic duo - Javaan Mumtaz and Atem Atem - that stole the headlines with their 33 and 26 points, respectively.
Mumtaz was on fire from beyond the arc, making five baskets from down town, as his three-point shooting made up for almost half of his points.
Atem backed up last weekend's combined 59-point effort from two matches with another productive night.
After trailing at the first break 17-16, Shepparton went on an incredible 13-2 run that flipped the game on its head.
Wodonga was able to bounce back and bridge the gap at the end of the second term with its gun performer Byron Hosie (23 points) finding his range.
The half-time margin went the way of the home side, with Shepparton leading 47-40.
And the points kept flowing during the third as the Gators raced out to 63-46 lead, with Nick Dodd (13 points) joining in on the action.
With a 22-point advantage at the last interval, Shepparton's Matthew Rennie (six points), David Gillespie (six) and Cameron Knott (four) were able to impact the scoreboard during the last term.
Looking ahead to next weekend, the Gators are set for a top-of-the-table clash against the Wangaratta Warriors in what is shaping up to be another crucial test for Brett Bathman's side.
It will be Shepparton's first away match of the season after three home games at the Swamp.
And they can expect a hostile environment at the Warriors’ home court, after they suffered an 111-57 thrashing to Wallan - who defeated Shepparton last weekend.
The round four contest will be played at Wangaratta's Indoor Sports Centre this Sunday afternoon.
