Beginning this month, Hot Shots Match Play is set to deliver a whole range of skills to juniors that are already playing or starting out in the sport.
Hot Shots Match Play will have youngsters aged from seven to 11 take to the courts across a five-week season that will start on Saturday, October 26.
It will help participants understand how to play tennis, including scoring, teach them about sportsmanship as they learn to play singles and doubles, and develop their social skills.
The modified program involves a time friendly format with shortened matches - three matches in one hour - and altered courts and equipment to suit each competitor's age and skill level.
Hot Shots Match Play will be run through registered coaching provider Keystone Tennis, with program co-ordinators Luke Dixon and Tim O'Connor to lead each day's play.
Dixon highlighted the benefits juniors could expect through the program, which will be run at the Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday mornings.
“As well as enjoying tennis, there are plenty of benefits of this program off the court too,” he said.
“It's a supportive environment and kids will get the chance to make friends and develop social skills.
“It's all about promoting a fun environment and that's what Hot Shots will bring.
“It's delivered in a professional setting, we will be engaging with parents along the way to understand how everything works.”
Entry for Hot Shots Match Play is $50 per person and that will include a free Hot Shots T-shirt and free Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club junior membership.
With the competition starting next weekend, there has already been a large number of registrations, but there is still room for more juniors looking to join in on the fun.
There will be a free session tomorrow morning for parents and juniors interested in the new program.
“If anyone is interested, they are more than welcome to come along (tomorrow) to our open day,” Dixon said.
“Come down and ask any questions that you may have, I'm more than happy to answer them.
“And it's a chance for kids to come and jump out on the courts and get a feel of things.”
● Entry is free to tomorrow's Hot Shots Match Play open day. It will start at 10am and run for two hours.
