With a host of first-team players not featuring, the Bombers had the game on their terms from the outset, but had to reestablish themselves in the contest after the Eagles found their wings in the second term.
The Eagles kicked three majors in the second to record a rare quarter win against the Bombers, but the response was fierce, Kyabram shutting things down to concede just 1.3 in the second half.
Kyabram coach Paul Newman said the blistering start had meant his troops had taken the foot off the gas in the second term, but he was pleased with the way they punched back.
"We started really well, but Mansfield really threw everything at us in the second quarter," he said.
"The most pleasing thing was the second half and the way we were able to shut them down defensively.
"Our starts have always been a little bit suspect, in front of the ball we did really well but we're a more defensive-minded team. I think the first quarter resulted in the lack of defence in the second quarter, we were caught with too many players in front of the ball."
But the seemingly ever-growing Kyabram injury list added another member last week, with star onballer Jordan Williams rupturing his Achilles in training, an injury that ends his year and will keep him out of action for quite some time.
"He's booked in for surgery, it's a bit disappointing really, but that's football," Newman said.
"We just have to try and move on, but we can't replace him. He'd mentioned it was the best he'd felt all year off the bye, he's had a few issues with his hamstrings."
Jason Morgan (hamstring) is also out for the season, while Axel Childs, Hayden Gemmill, Jake Reeves, Luke Morris and Reid Crowe all missed Saturday's game through injury.
Forward Kayne Pettifer also missed due to the impending birth of his child, but the Bombers did not lack much up forward with Kyle Mueller slotting six goals.
Lachie Smith also impressed for the Bombers with a best-on-ground display, along with Mick Mattingly, Tom Holman and Tom Sheldon.
For Mansfield, Patty Marks hit the scoreboard with two goals with Brett Mahoney, Tas Clingan and Luke Walsh also strong.
