Girgarre is not only getting a new dairy factory, it is on the list to get a new mobile phone tower.
The Victorian Government is partnering with Optus to build 25 new mobile phone towers throughout regional Victoria, providing 5000 households and businesses with new mobile phone coverage.
Towers will be built in Wharparilla, Yackandandah North and Girgarre to offer consistent mobile coverage to more than 1400 premises that previously had poor or no mobile services.
The 25 co-funded towers will be constructed all over Victoria with 15 local government areas to benefit, with a priority placed on bushfire-prone areas.
The first tower in Nanneella is already built with the remaining sites to be completed by the end of 2018.
Innovation and the Digital Economy Minister Philip Dalidakis said people living in regional Victoria deserved better mobile coverage in their homes, workplaces and while they travel.
‘‘We thank Optus for helping us get on with the job of delivering it,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ve invested almost $31million in 166 new mobile towers across Victoria, connecting 20000 premises that previously had no or poor mobile coverage.’’
