POPULAR Hurleys Hotel barman Greg Woods made the trip to Charlton last week with Kyabram trots trainer Mick Blackmore to see a trotter he has an ownership interest in try to break through for his first win after running three minor placings.
The trotter is called Rory McHinson — named in a fashion after Kyabram’s Roy Hindson — and much to Greg and his fellow owners’ delight he duly got the job done.
As the only owner of Rory McHinson who could attend the meeting, Greg found himself accepting the trophy for the win after the race.
But it wasn’t Greg’s last trip to the presentation area at the meeting.
Rory McHindson’s travelling partner, another trotter called Claudys Prince, won later at the meeting and Greg found himself back in the presentation area for a second time receiving another trophy. Rumour has it Greg is now going to further enhance his speech-making qualities and will be only too happy to continue his role as trophy recipient and speech maker if Rory McHindson and Claudy Prince can enjoy more wins!
And Mick Blackmore reckons he could cope with that, too.
