One of the club’s most successful initiatives, which has stood the test of time, is the 27 Club.
It originally had 27 members, hence the name, who make a small financial contribution each week and are eligible for weekly draws and an end of year function.
The number of members has grown to 41 although the name has not changed.
Each year funds raised by the 27 Club are spent of specific golf course projects, among the latest being drainage works on the 15th and 17th fairways.
This Sunday the annual 27 Club wind-up function will be held at the club, when members will enjoy their traditional superb feast before the final draws take place.
Any 27 Club member who has not advised coordinators Ian Lance and Adam Wettenhall of their attendance on Sunday is asked to do so ASAP.
This is another positive initiative that has helped develop our club into one of financial, social and golfing success.
In last week’s golf competitions the rain led to postponement of Saturday’s Brunker Fabrications Monthly Medal. This event will be played tomorrow.
A few hardy (is that the right word?) souls ventured out onto the course and the stroke event winner was Simon Hogan with nett 75, on countback from Matt Thomas.
Hogan made it a double when he scored 40 points to win Wednesday’s stableford event, again sneaking home on countback, this time from Graeme Rothwell. Ron Smith had the best score of the day and his 43 points won B grade by two shots from Tony Tonta.
Last Thursday the ladies also played stableford, with Karen Druitt taking the trophy on 39 points from Pat Aitken with 37.
In the clubhouse, don’t forget the ham and turkey raffles are being held between now and Christmas. Tickets are on sale from 6pm, with draws starting at 7.30.
Joker’s Wild has soared up to $5600 which would make a rather lovely Christmas present. Your raffle ticket automatically gets you in the draw for Joker’s Wild.
And while waiting for the raffle draws you can enjoy a delicious meal at a reasonable price. Bookings preferred.
