Deniliquin RSL Club’s Division One side were unable to build on last week’s form when playing host to Echuca, going down 93-52 overall.
After six rounds of the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division season, RSL find themselves at the bottom of the ladder with just the one win.
The RSL combination of Darren Greaves, Glenn Thomson, Terry Taylor and Frank Daniels dropped a ‘four’ on the first end, and although winning alternate ends RSL was down 10-4 after six ends.
Going in for the break after 11 ends, RSL were still trailing, 16-9.
After the break although only picking up three ends of the next nine, RSL amassed nine shots to cut back the margin to 22-18 after 20 ends.
Echuca were able to finish off strongly picking up 10 shots to two over the last five ends defeating RSL 32-20.
The rink of Mark Quor, Craig Hillier, Bruce Clancy and Don McCalman got away to a good start picking up five shots in the first two ends. But by the break RSL were trailing 14-12.
Echuca returned to the rink with a ‘three’ and ‘two’ before RSL reeled off five ends straight being all tied up 20-20 after 20 ends.
Echuca made the last five ends count getting over RSL 28-21.
The Deni rink of Linda Harris, Ken Wellard, Tony Tonta and Mick Howe looked to be in for a tight game, conceding five singles and a ‘two’ in the first six ends.
At the break with 11 ends played the score was 10-5 in favour of Echuca.
After the break with the score 12-7 Echuca dealt the knockout punch, picking up 11 shots to three over the next four ends.
RSL were unable to regain their feet picking up one shot over the remaining seven ends to end the day well beaten 33-11.
Deni RSL Division Three travelled to Echuca, going down 79-57 overall.
The team of Archie Webster, Jim Jennings, Rex Parker and Chris Frampton took eight ends to find their rhythm before picking up five ends straight. At the halfway mark Echuca lead 9-7.
An even contest ensued with RSL down 15-14 after 20 ends.
Both teams picked up two ends apiece with the game tied up at 17-17 with one end to play.
Echuca were able to pick up a ‘four’ on the last to defeat RSL 21-17.
The team of Lee Pattinson, Jenny Tonta, Peter Kotkin-Smith and Danny Stanmore opened with a ‘three’, but Echuca were able to go into the break with an eight shot lead of 16-8.
RSL came back strongly to pick up five ends to three, trailing 20-16 after 20 ends.
Three more ends saw the RSL team tie the game up at 20-all with two ends left to play.
Echuca were able to grab five shots on the second last and two shots on the last to defeat RSL 27-20.
RSL’s Ron Marchetti, Chris Taylor, Winnie Pattinson and Craig Taylor had a close fought tussle until the break, trailing 14-10.
After 15 ends RSL were behind 15-12, but a ‘five’ to Echuca stretched the margin to eight.
RSL came back to within four after 17 ends, but Echuca were able to hold their nerve and stretch the margin to defeat RSL 31-20.
Despite the loss RSL still find themselves in the top four with a 3-3 win-loss record.
Division Five also travelled to Echuca, winning on both rinks for the first time this season to hand themselves a 20 shot overall win, 56-36.
The team of Kevin Lester, Neville Austin, Alan Stonham and Brad Leetham had a steady start, going into the break trailing 13-11.
A good session after the break had RSL leading 21-15 after 19 ends, before Echuca picked up a ‘five’ that was followed two ends later by a ‘three’ to lead RSL 23-22 with three ends to play.
RSL picked up five shots over the remaining ends to win 27-23.
On the other rink Brian Clancy, Graham Gordon, debutant Miro Peterman and Jamie Lowe started slowly, trailing 9-3 after nine ends.
A ‘six’ on the 10th followed by a ‘one’ saw RSL edge themselves in front before the break, with the score 10-9 in their favour.
A good session following the break saw RSL pick up six ends to two, to have a commanding 22-12 lead after 20 ends.
It was an even contest over the remaining ends, until RSL picked up ‘four’ on the last to run out 16-shot winners 29-13.
The win moved RSL from the bottom of the ladder to third.
