Deniliquin Lions Club has been praised for its fundraising efforts during the District Governor Norm Walkington’s visit last week.
As part of his district tour, Mr Walkington was a guest at a Deniliquin Lions’ meeting held at the Deni RSL Club on Monday night. Also in attendance was Lions zone chair Inara Fox.
Mr Walkington was very complimentary of the club’s efforts to assist both local and international causes.
As part of its fundraising activities, the local Lions Club took over a coordination role of Deniliquin’s monthly market, held in Waring Gardens, in 2010.
In 2014 Lions members took over the Cash-A-Can initiative from Deniliquin Apex Club, with the recycling program still held at the Apex shed in Macauley St the second Saturday of each month.
‘‘We have good clubs that look after the community, and Deniliquin’s club is one of them,’’ Mr Walkington said.
‘‘Our district goes from Corryong to Balranald, with 61 clubs. These include one Lioness ladies club and six Leo clubs organised by youth.’’
Also during the District Governor’s visit, Deniliquin Lions took the opportunity to induct new member Janine Lawrence.
‘‘I joined because I think everyone needs to do their bit for the community,’’ she said.
‘‘The Lions are a big part of community service in town and I just want to help out where I can. It was all pretty good timing for me to join up with the District Governor visiting.’’
