The Benalla Festival is only weeks away and the Festival Advisory Committee is reminding community groups and organisations to get creative and be part of this year’s Street Parade.
The Benalla Festival Lima South Quarry Street Parade will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 2pm with the theme ‘‘Good Vibrations... a celebration of music and dance in our community’’.
Benalla Rural City Councillor Barbera Alexander said the parade was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the community and its creativity.
‘‘The parade is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our many groups, schools, organisations and businesses to community and visitors,’’ Cr Alexander said.
‘‘We are encouraging participants to be creative with their entry, so spectators who line Bridge St, Benalla, get to enjoy the colour, movement, music and fanfare of this much-loved event.’’
The tradition of the Benalla Festival Street Parade has been delighting the community and visitors for more than 50 years with colourful floats, carnival characters, entertainers, vehicles and bands.
So whether you are walking, in a vehicle or float, be colourful, dress in uniform, or costume — remember your participation is limited only by your imagination.
Prizes will be awarded on the day for entries that capture the theme.
The parade starts near the Botanical Gardens entrance at the Benalla Monash Bridge and moves down Bridge St to the roundabout at Carrier St (Millers corner) and returns along Bridge St before the official opening of the Village by the Lake festivities.
●Street parade application forms and guidelines are available from www.benallafestival.com.au or the Customer Service Centre, 1 Bridge St East. Entries close on Monday, October 16.
