Children learn crafty Christmas skills

With the countdown until the festive season begins now underway, local youngsters got into the holiday spirit by creating special Christmas crafts at a school holiday program on Wednesday.

Hosted by Deniliquin’s Country Women’s Association Boobook branch, ten children attended and learned to make calico bags, Christmas stockings and tree decorations.

Deniliquin CWA Boobook president Lyn Rose said the workshops help provide valuable life-skills for younger generations.

‘‘We hold these holiday programs to teach children crafts that might fade away if we don’t pass on the knowledge, such as sewing,’’ she said.

‘‘The kids always enjoy it and love learning new skills.’’

The CWA is now focused on hosting its annual flower show, on Saturday, October 21.

To be held at the Multi Arts Centre in Cressy St, Deniliquin, the show will feature elegant flower arrangements, raffles and a morning tea, and is available for public viewing from 10am.
