Rugby star needs help

Kyabram rugby union player Kisacc Lapworth was selected as part of the 2017 U15 Junior Gold Cup squad.

IT’S been anything but an easy journey for Kyabram’s Kisacc Lapworth.

As a rugby union player, the 15-year-old is a rarity in country Victoria.

He can’t count the number of times he and his dad travelled the six-hour round trip to Melbourne and back after school each week so he could play for the Brimbank Bucks.

However, his dream to play at a national level seemed to be on hold after his mother Lisa sadly passed away at the start of the year.

But Kisacc didn’t give up.

The young athlete persisted, making it to the top 45 for the Victorian 2017 under 15 Junior Gold Cup Squad.

But while trying out for the top 25, Kisacc tore a ligament on his thumb.

In enormous pain and nursing a busted thumb, he still refused to give up.

And his persistence has finally paid off, with the 15-year-old selected to represent Victoria in Brisbane in September to contest the Northern Conference of the Junior Gold Cup Competition.

But he needs your help to get there.

With $1400 needed to get Kisacc to Brisbane, his family is reaching out to residents and local businesses for assistance.

“Some support would be amazing. As far as I know, this is the first kid from Campaspe to be selected for the state side. It’s incredible for our town and our region,” Kisacc’s dad Bennon Lapworth said.

“The costs of fuel, time and wear and tear on the car have added up over the years as Kisacc’s played in Melbourne. But we really want to see him make it to Brisbane.”

Bennon said he was incredibly proud of his son’s persistence against all odds.

“It’s been a tough time for Kisacc with Lisa’s death at the start of the year, but to still push through shows incredible resilience,” he said.

“I don’t know of any parents who wouldn’t be incredibly proud when their kids make state teams – and to be the only country kid in the squad is amazing.

“It’s a pity Lisa’s not here – she would have been so proud.”
