Davis wins round two of Challen Cup comp.

Deniliquin High School student Alex Poka gives croquet a try for his High School sports afternoon. Alex has also joined the club on Sunday mornings to play.

The second round of the Challen Cup competition was played on Sunday and saw 16 players take part.

There were only two three-game winners with Andy Davis winning the round with 25 hoops and three points and Gwen Pearn was second with 23 hoops and two points.

There were five two-game winners with good scores. Darren McLoughlin had 28, Colin Campbell 26, John James 22, Mary James 21 and Doreen Peterson scored 20 hoops.

John James had four successful jump shots, Andy Davis three, Darren McLoughlin two and Jill Tainsh and Gwen Pearn one each.

Theo Walle and John Tainsh each ran a handy hoop-in-one.

The shot of the day went to Colin Campbell. He had a fantastic shot from a distant boundary to go in off his opponent’s ball which was almost in the hoop.

On Wednesday there were twelve players and John James was the only three-game winner with 26 hoops.

Four players had good scores despite losing one game.

Doreen Peterson had 22, Heather Douglas and Colin Campbell had 21 and John Tainsh 20 hoops.

There were three successful jump shots for the day.

John James, Marg Telford and Brad Fawns all had one each.

Heather Douglas had the shot of the day. She had a tremendous shot from a boundary right into the hoop.

A reminder to pennant players that pennant starts on Thursday.

The Deni Gems will compete at Echuca-Moama and the Diamonds will play at home against Rich River.
