Call for Tatura residents to dig deep for cause

March 21, 2017

Hard workers: Tatura residents Trish Warnett and Fay Alexander are getting prepared for the Red Cross calling campaign next month.

This month is Red Cross Calling month and Tatura residents will be out in force to raise money for Red Cross.

The campaign brings communities together in a show of support for people in Australia and overseas who have fallen on tough times.

In big numbers, Australians everywhere answer the call.

‘‘We would like to remind locals that we’ll be out and about this month,’’ Tatura Red Cross unit treasurer Trish Warnett said.

‘‘Last year we raised over $5000 and we’d love to improve on that this year.’’

Mrs Warnett said the campaign was the group’s biggest fundraiser for the year and had asked the community to help out last month as the members were ‘‘getting a little bit older’’.

Each volunteer was given a dedicated street to focus on and helped out for a day.

Mrs Warnett said the support would help Red Cross be there for people in Australia and overseas.

‘‘Whether it’s standing by a community as they recover from an emergency, supporting a village to build toilets and tanks for clean water, or lending a hand to the elderly,’’ she said.
