If ever you needed evidence that trying to cross railway tracks when a train is coming is dangerous, this would have to be it.
Thankfully the occupants of the car, a Suzuki Swift sedan, had abandoned the car when it apparently got bogged in the gravel.
I’m told the car was hit by the south bound XPT, which was doing more than 100km/h about 5.30am one morning last week.
The train stopped about 800 metres down the track and was undamaged.
After a safety inspection it continued about an hour later.
The whole railway system was closed for about three hours.
A tow truck from Benalla pulled it off the tracks.
V/Line, Police and Boho and Violet Town CFA attended.
