Tell me where the dogs came from.
Girlie came from Darryl Jenkinson at Gunbower. She is 10 years old and is a bit of a coolie collie cross. Jessie is a pure-bred German coolie. She came from Alan Murray at Appin and she was one of nine in the litter. They were all a real mixture of colours.
What sort of working dogs are they?
Girlie has never been a good working dog, just handy. She is more of a mate and travelling companion.
Jessie is still learning but she is good at rounding up cattle. Anything that is left in the paddock on its own won't be there for long. She'll go out there and round it up without having to even tell her. Other times she can be very frustrating.
Girlie is getting a bit old, does she still work?
She does, but she sees her role as more of a travelling companion.
Would you say Girlie is spoilt?
She does get a bit of spoiling, she waits outside the back door for a biscuit every morning.
I take her into Leitchville in the yellow ute to get the paper every day _ that's one of her rituals. She loves it when it's a nice day at the footy and I'm on the gate and take her there as well.
How did her obsession with driving start?
I would drive out to my son's farm at Pyramid Hill and she would just come along for company. We have travelled a lot of miles together, me and Girlie. She gets very annoyed if she misses her morning trip in to Leitchville to get the paper.
How do Girlie and Jessie get along together?
Girlie is the boss and she gets a bit grumpy with Jessie at times.
( Country News noticed despite Girlie's obsession with travelling, she does move over and make room for Jessie on the mule motorbike.) Words and pictures: Sophie Bruns
