Mooroopna police confirmed a Chinese national in her mid-20s was killed during the single-vehicle collision.
Police said the woman was travelling north in her green Toyota Camry sedan along Craven Rd, east of Tatura, prior to the incident.
It is believed the woman lost control of her vehicle about 7 pm, on Craven Rd between Pyke Rd and Ferguson Rd.
A police spokesperson confirmed the car left the road, hit a tree and flipped onto its roof.
The woman died at the scene.
Craven Rd was closed for more than two hours on Monday night while police, ambulance, Country Fire Authority personnel and Shepparton Search and Rescue volunteers worked to clear the scene.
Shepparton Search and Rescue president Michael D'Elia said his team remained at the scene until about 9.30 pm providing lighting and assisting other emergency service crews.
Police confirmed the cause of the collision was still under investigation as of yesterday afternoon, confirming the matter was now before the coroner and a coronial inquest would be undertaken.
The collision brings the death toll so far this year on Victorian roads to 39.
