Purchased in 1979 by the Mangiameli family Sebastian's Restaurant located on Wyndham St has been at the heart of local celebrations for decades.
Named after the oldest son of the Mangiameli family, brothers Cam and Sebastian took over the business from their parents in the mid-90s.
Although the brothers and their partners parted ways with the business in 2014, locals will always owe their love of Sebastian's to the Mangiameli family.
Former owner Cam Mangiameli said he had his last drink in Sebastian's on Thursday night but was excited for the restaurant's next chapter.
“One of the things I loved most was being a part of people's memories,” Mr Mangiameli said.
“I had the privilege of being involved in so many special moments.
“I also loved seeing my young wait staff grow and become the people they are today,” he said.
Mr Mangiameli said he believed the restaurant was so well respected by the community because of its consistency.
“We focused on one thing (dinner) and doing it well,” Mr Mangiameli said.
“We loved what we did and that reflected in the food we made and the service we delivered,” he said.
Maria Becquet had worked at Sebastian's for 18 years and said it was a sad end of an era.
“Some of the best days of my life happened here,” Ms Becquet said.
“The Mangiameli family are the best family in town and were delightful to work for.
“They had a great following and as soon as they left we lost about 20 per cent of our income . . . "she said.
Ms Becquet had been involved with hundreds of celebrations over the years including a number of weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and engagements.
“I've seen four engagements alone on Valentines Day,” she said.
“It would be nice to see one final one on Friday and I think we actually might,” she said.
Saturday night will be the last chance for locals to dine in the building before it's transformed into a Bar and Grill.
South Australia company Angus and Co will transform the restaurant into a more informal-style space which will focus on serving premium steaks along with other family favourites.
Former Sebastian's staff are expected to welcome diners into Angus and Co when renovations are complete by the end of February.
