The 54-year-old was born and bred in Murchison, and can't think of anywhere else he'd rather live.
It comes with everything he needs: great amenities, people and organisations.
“It's really a close-knit community,” Mr Catania said.
“There's a lot of people in there that are part of different organisations and that holds it together.”
Mr Catania knows volunteering is the lifeblood of a small town, considering he's been doing it since he was 17.
This passion is a trait he's passed onto his three daughters.
“If you didn't have volunteers, then none of these organisations would run,” Mr Catania said.
“You volunteer because you learn a lot about the committee you're on, life skills, self-confidence, public speaking.
“You just have a go — if you're in small town everyone supports the organisations as much as they can.
“The best part is the friendship. You can't put a price on it and the people I've volunteered alongside, I'm lifelong friends with.”
Mr Catania has done committee work at the local kindergarten and primary school councils for his daughters.
One of them, Kiara, has won two sports awards at the Murchison Australia Day awards.
Mr Catania has been an active volunteer for the Murchison Fire Brigade for the best part of 33 years.
Part of his work has involved training teenagers through the junior fire brigade, which is one of his proudest achievements.
“It's been running in Murchison for about 20 years,” Mr Catania said.
“They do a lot of hands-on training; no fires. It's ages from 11 to 16, and it gives them self-confidence as well as working in a volunteer organisation.
“It gives them life skills, because they do a lot of hands-on skills associated with the fire brigade such as pumping, orienteering and cooking.
“It's also discipline. They really do get a lot out of it.
“Once they get to 16 they can join the fire brigade, which we've had about 20 join, then moved on in their careers but have joined that new brigade.”
Mr Catania's devotion to Murchison recently scored him the town's Citizen of the Year on Australia Day.
“There are a lot of other volunteers in the town that have done a lot over the years in the population of a thousand,” he said.
For the past 15 years, Mr Catania has also served as secretary of the Murchison Community Centre.
One of his favourite hobbies is rebuilding vintage cars, particularly Fords.
He works as an assistant trade manager at WB Hunter Home Timber & Hardware in Shepparton.
