On the back of Victorian Senator Bridget McKenzie resigning as Nationals deputy leader and Agriculture Minister, a potential higher office position has opened up for the backbench MP.
Mr Drum said "others" are in better positions to take the deputy leadership but wouldn't give any endorsements.
He said Senator McKenzie's resignation would only make a slight change to the ministry and cabinet.
“If there are portfolio positions that become available in agriculture or water I would be really interested in letting our leaders know,” Mr Drum said.
“It will come down to dividing up positions but that will be closely looked at after tomorrow's meeting with the leadership group of both the Nationals and Liberals.
“I will have to wait and see before making my decision.”
The National Party will meet tomorrow to vote for a new deputy leader.
Mr Drum said he was sad to see Senator McKenzie leave on the back of the sports grants saga.
Mr Drum previously backed his Nationals colleague before she resigned.
“I've been vocal in supporting Bridget,” Mr Drum said.
“There's been an apparent breach to fail to declare an interest with shooting clubs in Wangaratta.
“What we'll learn from this is that it will make more transparency and the arrangement of funds.”
