Opening just over two months ago, Shepparton's Bubble Cuppa Cafe is selling bubble tea.
Originating in Taiwan in the 1980s, the black tea combines small tapioca pearls, condensed milk and syrup or honey. Many variations of flavours and toppings have followed since its creation.
Bubble tea is mainly served cold, and the shop — next door to Enzo’s Burgers in Maude St — opened just in time for hot summer days.
Owner Phoebe Charles said she saw an opening in Shepparton’s market for the trendy tea.
“I was living in Shepparton for about a year and there were heaps of places for coffee but not many places specialising in tea,” she said.
Customers are spoiled for choice, with dozens of flavours available including brown sugar milk tea, lychee tea, Oreo smoothie and even a matcha smoothie. The drinks can be made extra-indulgent by adding a range of toppings such as rainbow jelly and mango popping pearls.
The store also sells a range of hot deep-fried snacks.
Bubble Cuppa Cafe is open seven days from 11 am. For more information visit Bubble Cuppa's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/BubbleCuppa/
